Dogs and Cats Online - Permanent registration number

Registered dogs will be issued with a permanent registration number upon first registration. The permanent registration number remains with the dog regardless of a change of council areas or a transfer of ownership. The dog registration record contains information about:

  • The owner details of the dog
  • The physical description of the dog
  • The location the dog is kept
  • The microchip and desexing details of the dog
  • The breeder of the dog
  • Who undertook any microchipping or desexing procedures
  • Control orders placed on the dog

Maintaining access to this information makes it easier for authorised officers to locate owners of found dogs, makes it easier if you move house or transfer owners and demonstrates compliance with new desexing and microchipping laws.

Annual registration fee

Each year owners of a registered dogs (and cats if the council area charges for cat registration) will be sent a renewal notice in July via their nominated method, email, sms or post. The registration fee is calculated based on the information entered into Dogs and Cats Online and payable before the 31 August each year. Prior to payment you will be promted to confirm the details are current.

Unlike other microchip registries, there is no fee to enter or amend the dog or cat’s information in Dogs and Cats Online.
