Scam Alert: PLEASE BE AWARE!

DCM is aware of emails circulating worldwide, claiming that pet microchip records have expired and are now listed as "unregistered" on affiliated websites. These emails may also request a fee to renew microchip registration.

We want to reassure pet owners that:

  • Dogs and Cats Online (DACO) is not affiliated with any third-party microchip registration services.
  • Dog and cat registration is managed exclusively through local councils via DACO.
  • Registration in DACO occurs annually from 1 July, with renewal notices sent via the owner's preferred contact method (Email, SMS, or Postal).
  • Any registration-related enquiries should be directed to your local council.
  • Emails from third parties claiming to handle pet microchip registration should be treated with caution, as they may be a scam.

We understand that such emails can be concerning, and we want to reassure pet owners that the registration process with their local council is simple and secure.

If you have questions regarding your pet’s registration, you can confirm it through the official DACO system or by contacting your local council.

Multiple investigations by the DACO system developer have found no evidence of a data breach involving DACO. To help maintain system integrity, we ask recipients of these emails to forward a copy to dcmb@sa.gov.auto support an ongoing investigation.
